Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Levels and Examples. When we talk about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, we start from the bottom “essential needs” and work our way to the top. Let's dive into the 5 Levels in the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. With Pete Grimes
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Levels
The 5 Levels in the Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs are:
Level 1 Our Basic Needs
Also known as Physiological Needs – for food, water, warmth, rest.
Level 2 Our Basic Needs
Also known as Safety Needs – to feel and have safety and security.
Both levels are essential to human existence and must be met to live at a basic level of
comfort.
Level 3 Our Psychological Needs
Also known as Belongingness and love Needs - to feel and experience intimate relationships and friendships.
Level 4 Our Psychological Needs
Also known as Esteem Needs – to be admired, enjoy prestige and a feeling of accomplishment.
Level 5 Our Self Fulfilment Needs
Also known as the need to feel and experience achieving our full potential including creative activities.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Examples
Level 1 – Having a home, food, and subsistence.
Level 2 – To feel safe and secure, health, personal safety, financial security.
Level 3 – Enjoying friendship with family and friends, meaningful connections, feeling of belonging.
Level 4 – Achieving status in our work/career and how we see ourselves “self-esteem’, represents our strengths – getting recognition for what we do (and what we want to be seen for).
Level 5 – Feeling internally fulfilled, beyond money, assets and all else, your life purpose and mission – meeting your full potential as it is important to you.

Real Life Business Examples
Reflecting on these 5 levels, you may start to realise and notice key trends in business.
Not for Profit Organisations & Charities (Level 1)
Focus their mission and work on helping disadvantaged fulfil the basic needs for human existence.
Fighting Cyber Crime & Keeping Us Safe (Level 2)
Physical, online and offline.
Government agencies such as the Federal Police are working hard to keep citizens and the community at large feeling safe. Organisations such as Google are working hard to bring in measures to protect user data - for things like purchases, privacy, personal information. In Europe extensive measures were put in place, what we now know as GDPR.
Airbnb - Feeling of Belonging (Level 3)
For the love of travel, their slogan is to create a sense of belonging no matter where you go
Harvard University - "Veritas" Seeking Truth Status and Strength (Level 4)
The status of achieving academia at a prestigious university is one example whereby doing so, we receive in return recognition, builds our self esteem and strength to achieve what we set out in life (career, family, opportunity).
Legacy with Apex Thought Leaders (Level 5)
Once you've achieved everything you want, there comes a point where you look forward to the legacy you want to leave behind. This is the founding reason why Apex Thought Leaders was started. I work with C-level executives and thought leaders document their story in a published book. Self actualisation, being able to fulfil beyond what money can buy and completing that one thing you always wanted to do - whether that be for yourself or for others.
When businesses can identify which need they satisfy (in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs) as core to their service offering they will have a far greater impact and success than those that offering anything to anyone.
When writing your book, I encourage you to consider who you're writing for, the journey they're on in their life and which part your book (story) will help fulfil them.
